Documentary Film and Multimedia Stories

Rhonda Chan Soo is a documentary filmmaker and multimedia storyteller based in her native Trinidad and Tobago - helping Caribbean people expansively care for our communities, appreciate our heritage, and create equitable futures through storytelling. 

Over the past decade, Rhonda has directed and produced documentary films and videos for human rights, cultural, agricultural, and environmental protection organizations, including the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Foundation for Bioregional Autonomy of the Orinoco Watershed (FBAOW), and the British High Commission via Green Market Santa Cruz. She has also written and produced non-fiction feature articles and human interest pieces for the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Cocoa Research Centre at the University of the West Indies. Rhonda’s photographs have been featured in the online magazine at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage.

Rhonda holds an MA in Documentary Film from Wake Forest University, and a BSc in Environmental Science from Furman University. She was the recipient of a national scholarship from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, a full-tuition scholarship from Furman University, and a partial tuition scholarship from Wake Forest University. Rhonda worked as a multimedia fellow at the Southern Environmental Law Center in Birmingham, Alabama, before returning to Trinidad in 2014. She worked as Creative Director of Bird's Eye View Productions from 2018 - 2025, and has also collaborated with the Third Horizon Film Festival as Panels Coordinator for the festival’s 2020, 2024 and 2025 editions.

 

In her personal projects, Rhonda is presently exploring personal filmmaking, family histories, memory and community-based storytelling.
